The Danish Canoe and Kayak Federation (DKF) has officially established its first IPP 1-3 White Water Kayak education program—a milestone made possible through Euro Paddle Pass (EPP) project funding and a strong cross-border partnership with the Norwegian Paddling Association.
While Denmark is renowned for its extensive coastlines and flatwater paddling, developing a certified white water program presented a unique challenge. To ensure the highest standard of safety, skill development, and education, DKF looked beyond its borders and utilized the collaborative network at the heart of the Euro Paddle Pass.
Bridging the Gap Through Nordic Cooperation
Supported by EPP project funds, DKF partnered with the Norwegian Paddling Association (Norges Padleforbund). Norway, with its world-class rivers and decades of white water expertise, was the perfect partner to help ground the Danish program in proven, high-quality practices.
A cornerstone of this successful launch was the direct involvement of the Norwegian Paddling Association, which provided a highly experienced instructor to act as the official assessor for the inaugural Danish education course. This hands-on support ensured that Denmark’s new IPP 1-3 White Water curriculum not only met international standards but also directly benefited from Norway’s extensive, practical experience in the discipline.
More Than Just a Framework
This project stands as a prime example of what the Euro Paddle Pass represents. The EPP is widely recognized for creating a standardized framework for paddle sports across Europe, ensuring that qualifications are mutually understood and respected. However, the Danish-Norwegian collaboration highlights a deeper value: the EPP is a dynamic community. By facilitating funding and encouraging active cooperation between member nations, the EPP proves that it is more than just a theoretical framework or a syllabus. It is a powerful network of knowledge sharing. When federations pool their resources and expertise, the quality of paddle sports education elevates across the entire continent.
Thanks to this joint effort, Danish paddlers now have a structured, quality-assured pathway to develop their white water skills, and the EPP network has once again demonstrated the tangible benefits of European cooperation.
